Get the facts - What is so great about a digital transfer?
At Forever on DVD™, we provide frame-by-frame, non-interlaced film transfers for ultra-high resolution and perfect, flickerless, stunning detail for the sharpest transfers available from regular 8, super 8, and 16mm film.
Film is digitized frame-by-frame with no interlacing to provide a completely frame-accurate transfer. Transferring frame-by-frame ensures 100% frame accuracy for critical sound sync applications. Also, such frame discretion means the clearest, most crisp picture possible next to a Rank transfer.
A completely digital transfer produces video that is gorgeous and flickerless! An ultra-high resolution copy of the original film...that won't fade, break, burn or crack.
Each frame is individually imaged directly off the film through an enlarged gate so that the entire frame is visible, not just the centre of the frame that is visible when using a standard sized gate. The film is illuminated using LEDs so there is no damaging heat produced. Film is scanned slowly at only 6 to 8 frames per second, so there is little stress to older, fragile film.

We digitize all film using a 850-line 3-CCD broadcast video camera and capture from a component 10-bit 4:2:2 signal to 10-bit 4:2:2 uncompressed, 8-bit 4:2:2 uncompressed or 8-bit 4:1:1 DV.
Here is a downsized sample of a typical captured frame from super-8mm film. The top frame is completely non-interlaced and represents an exact copy of the frame of film. (Note the detail and edge-to-edge uniform brightness.) The bottom frame represents the exact same moment in time, but interlaced instead of non-interlaced. Since a frame of video is made up of 2 sets of fields, and each set of fields is captured 1/60th of a second apart, the frame you see is actually the merger of 2 completely different frames. Since the people in the image were moving, the interlaced frame appears out of focus and blurry. This is what sets apart a frame-by-frame transfer from a regular interlaced transfer. No other transfer provides such sharpness and clarity.

No more $50 halogen bulbs that always burn out way before the indicated life span, no more moving the furniture to set up the screen in just the right position and no more weight lifting with the projector. Forever on DVD™ supports physical fitness - we just think you should all consider a gym membership instead.
Check-out the gallery for examples of typical super 8 and regular 8 film transfers. These sample videos are compressed quite a bit, so keep in mind that the quality is much degraded compared to the original full-size videos. Until the videos have completely downloaded they may not play smoothly, especially if you don't have a high-speed connection to the Internet.
